International investment during the war

International investment during the war

Attracting foreign investment into Ukraine and creating new jobs will be extremely important in the post-war period. But is it realistic to do this under conditions of war? Is it worth starting the process of attracting investment already now? Which stages can realistically be completed while we have not yet won? What is the benefit for Ukrainian business? That is what we will discuss today.

The international community’s interest in investing in Ukraine has been steadily growing since the spring of this year. As an Agency, we feel this through the number of enquiries, targeted meetings, and attempts to understand our investment climate and business landscape. Representatives from European countries, the USA and even Latin America increasingly ask not only formal questions, but also request substantive analysis — on legislation, existing enterprises, developed sectors and the raw material base.

📍 It is clear that Kyiv Oblast is among the regions potentially most relevant for foreign investors. The Agency continues to build cooperation with representatives of Austrian, German, French, Turkish, American and Mexican businesses and capital. In particular, with business associations, chambers of commerce and industry, various types of investment funds, and investment banks.

Why are foreign investors interested in Kyiv Oblast? All the starting conditions for this are in place:

🔹a favourable geographical location;

🔹the availability of qualified personnel;

fairly well-developed capacity for network connections;

🔹a sufficient raw material base;

🔹potential for the development of innovative sectors;

🔹proximity to the capital — in every sense of that advantage.

👉What are the benefits of foreign investment for Kyiv Oblast?

First of all, the opportunity to employ internally displaced persons, among whom there are often highly qualified specialists, and simply not to lose them for Ukraine. Additional GRP. Additional local taxes — both for communities and for the oblast.

Secondly, along with investment we can and must receive modern technologies and technological developments. This, in turn, is a matter of engaging international engineering and development companies in the design and construction of enterprises and industrial parks, and implementing global trends towards decarbonisation, among other things.

Maximum engagement of advanced global experience, technologies and their bearers is perhaps the only chance for Ukraine to overcome its technological lag in the post-war period.
