Medvyn Community and ARRKO: Potential, Initiative and Finding Solutions Together

Community development begins with initiative — from the first question to a systemic solution. That is why the Kyiv Regional Development Agency team has spent recent months conducting a series of focus groups in Kyiv region communities. In a format of open dialogue with local authorities, business and the active community, we worked together to find tools to help communities grow stronger even in difficult times.

Medvyn community was the final point in this series. The focus group was moderated by Valentyna Poltavets. Representatives of the executive committee, entrepreneurs, farmers, educators and local activists joined the discussion — people who do not merely live on this land, but work every day on its development.

Medvyn is a community with strong agricultural, recreational and production potential. Private land plots for development, forest resources, water bodies, beekeeping, green economy initiatives and a desire to move forward form the basis for sustainable growth here.

During the focus group, the following key topics were discussed:

  • Medical infrastructure. The community’s main request is the establishment of a family medicine outpatient clinic. Providing basic medical services is critically important for improving quality of life and the community’s attractiveness to investors.
  • Entrepreneurship. Medvyn has examples of business initiatives worth scaling up: processing of technical hemp, bakery production, beekeeping, and growing honey-bearing crops. All of these could become points of economic growth.
  • Social cohesion. At present, the community has individual volunteers, but no formalised public or charitable associations. An initiative to create a space for veterans was discussed, which would include legal, psychological and social support.
  • Agricultural machinery and local logistics. Participants stressed the need for equipment to service large agricultural machinery, which is critically necessary for the stable operation of farms.

Medvyn community is a space where ideas, motivation, resources and a vision for change already exist. The participants in the discussion proved that they are ready to act — and it is precisely this cohesion and strategic thinking that creates the foundation for further development.

We sincerely thank all meeting participants for their openness, constructiveness and trust in the dialogue. Medvyn became the final community in our field research, and the Agency will soon present the results of this stage and the solutions developed in cooperation with Kyiv region communities.

The focus groups are being carried out with the grant support of the International Renaissance Foundation.
