Participation in the conference “Biomethane in Ukraine: Opportunities and Development”
How can Ukraine harness the potential of biomethane for sustainable development? Last week, the Kyiv Regional Development Agency team took part in the international conference Biomethane in Ukraine: Opportunities and Development, organised by the Energy Community in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and key players in the sector.
During the event, discussions focused on what is holding back, and at the same time opening up, opportunities for the sector's development: how to improve the legislative framework, simplify producers' access to the gas transmission system, ensure certification and compliance with EU standards, and how to create clear conditions for investors who are already ready to invest in biomethane projects today.
Particularly valuable was the experience of Ukrainian companies already operating in the sector:
- Gals Agro shared its experience of entering the biogas market long before support policies appeared.
- MHP presented its own developments in using green hydrogen in biomethanisation, which not only increases fuel output but also significantly reduces emissions. The team also demonstrated miniature mobile units for assessing the efficiency of biogas facilities — a solution that could be particularly relevant for local communities.
For the Agency, such participation is an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and technologies shaping the future energy landscape. Kyiv region has sufficient agricultural resources, local initiatives and ambitious communities to become a region for implementing such solutions.
We thank the organisers for a professional discussion. We return with new insights to continue working towards making green energy a real opportunity for every community!
