Round Table “Restoring Access to Healthcare Services in the Community”
Protecting the health of the oblast’s population is one of the priorities of both the whole country and the authorities of Kyiv Oblast. It is therefore important to provide quality medical services in communities and make them accessible to everyone.
On 22 July, a round table “Restoring Access to Healthcare Services in the Community” was held in Baryshivka. The event was attended by Lesia Karnaukh, Deputy Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, representatives of the USAID project Innovations to Overcome the HIV Epidemic, representatives of Baryshivka Settlement Council and the Tetiiv Territorial Community City Council, as well as other participants interested in the topic of healthcare and the accessibility of medical services.
The event was held as part of the Kyiv Oblast Regional Office for International Cooperation. The Regional Office for International Cooperation is an initiative of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine, which aims to develop cooperation between local and regional authorities and international partners seeking to work at the oblast and territorial community level.
The authorities of Kyiv Oblast currently face an important challenge – restoring quality medical services to communities affected by russia’s armed aggression. Therefore, as part of the “Innovations to Overcome the HIV Epidemic” project, all concerned parties can join efforts to restore medical infrastructure and services in the region.
The project will be implemented in two communities of Kyiv Oblast – Baryshivka and Tetiiv. The project’s key partners are: Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Department of Health of the Kyiv Regional State Administration.
The project envisages:
🔷 support for mobile outreach teams that will include the services of primary care doctors, a psychologist and a social worker;
🔷 the introduction of mobile pharmacies to streamline patients’ access both to the “Affordable Medicines” programme and to the medicines they need;
🔷 the creation of private rooms for receiving online psychological counselling;
🔷 prevention of gender-based and domestic violence;
🔷 increasing the involvement of local authorities in providing medical services in the community.
“With the start of the full-scale invasion, many settlements in Kyiv Oblast were occupied, and even more were damaged. Medical infrastructure was no exception. We are currently working to restore medical services and improve therapeutic, consultative and psychological care. I am confident that, together with my colleagues, we will be able to overcome all challenges and restore medical services in the region’s communities throughout all stages of the project,” said Lesia Karnaukh.
A healthy nation is the foundation of Ukraine’s recovery!
