Specialised Forum on the Development of the Biogas Sector in Kyiv Oblast

On 3 August, a specialised forum on the development of the biogas sector in Kyiv Oblast was held in Fastiv. This is the first of seven thematic events in Kyiv Oblast. The event was organised by the team of the Kyiv Regional Development Agency as part of a project to develop a Plan for the Development of the Biogas Industry of Kyiv Oblast.

During the forum, participants learned more about biogas and its benefits for communities and for attracting investment, and were also able to work in practice on a concept for a specific farm and think together about the potential raw material base across the district.

Representatives of biogas enterprises, relevant agencies and authorities of Kyiv Oblast, who shared their own experience, took part in the event. In particular, welcoming remarks were given by Agro-Industrial Development Department of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Lina Shchurevych, and by the head of the Fastiv District State Administration, Vladyslav Lytvyn. Speakers at the forum included the Chairman of the Board of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine, Heorhii Heletukha, the Head of Renewable Energy at the Gals Agro agricultural holding, Oleh Riabov, and the Director of the Department of Environmental Re-engineering and Resource Conservation Project Implementation at Ukrgasbank, Oleksii Savin.

The material developed during the forum will form the basis for drafting the Plan for the Development of the Biogas Industry of Kyiv Oblast. The main document will include a map-plan of existing and potential biogas projects in the region, a substantiated and up-to-date analysis of the region’s potential, and specific investment project proposals.

In addition, as part of the project, a preliminary feasibility study will be developed for one of the seven concepts. The pre-feasibility study will be developed by technical specialists from Pro-Energy, who have the necessary expertise and experience in implementing similar projects.

Overall, the implementation of the project to develop the biogas sector in Kyiv Oblast will make it possible to:

🔻minimise the information gap in understanding the technical possibilities and potential of the biogas market among communities and local businesses in Kyiv Oblast;

🔻create a map of the location of biogas plants in Kyiv Oblast;

🔻create a basis for developing a pipeline of biogas plant projects that are investment-attractive for international financial institutions.
